My friend has recently moved from So Cal to San Jose taking her three cats with her. Her oldest recently gave birth and she wishes to send me one but neither of us knows how to go about doing this

I don’t know the distance involved, but I shipped my cats via airlines from the United States to Germany when my husband was in the service. She might want to check with her vet for suggestions.

I live in an apartment in a college town where most pets that can’t be kept in a terrarium, aquarium or cage are not allowed. With these restrictions in mind what good pets would you recommend?

(If the pet doesn’t make a lot of mess and doesn’t smell I might consider keeping it even if it breaks the lease agreement.)

There are lots of great pets that can be kept in a terrarium or a small cage. If you want something unique and easy to care for, try a hermit crab. They are fairly entertaining, can’t bite, don’t get sick or get infested with fleas, and they don’t stink at all. If interested, I have included a weblink about caring for hermit crabs.

I saw a pit-bull type dog at the shelter with ears that were docked very short to the head. Does this indicate that this dog was used or was intended to be used for dog fighting?

What do dog fighters do with the ears of the dogs anyway? In old days didn’t they used to dock them real close to the head?

Most people who get "fighting" breeds crop the ears with no intent on fighting. It just gives the dog a mean, watchdog look (even though they can be super sweet). But since it is at a shelter, why don’t you see the staff if they know anything? I kind of doubt it because then it would probably have aggression problems with other dogs and all shelter dogs are tested for that.

Mum says she would never adopt a cat with cat flu? Most cats at the shelter would have cat flu if I’m not mistaken as they spend heaps of time with other cats, epecially when there with penned with 7 other different cats

It would be virtually impossible to find a shelter cat the didn’t have cat flu? Right or Wrong?
Cats are vacciented at our shelters for cat flu and other disease, but although does reduce the chances of a cat getting sick, does not guarantee the cat will not get sick.

I adopted 2 of my cats at the humane society. The one I adoted last year had an URI and turns out she has Feline Herpes Virus. The one I adopted in July had an URI but now she’s pretty much in good health. So, I think it depends on the cat’s immune system.

People call themselves animal lovers but they don’t like stray pets, they think reptiles are "disgusting", they eat dead animals everynight… I’m just curious what these people think an "animal lover" is….

The true animal lover is an activist. In other words they go out of their way to help animal rights organizations and volunteer at local animal shelters.
